DATA MANAGEMENT & INFORMATION SECURITY

When storing data for Multimedia Projects for Human Rights Watch, please use the following procedures to back up and secure data. Due to the sensitive nature of human rights work, adhering to these guidelines is extremely important. Because conditions on the ground are shifting constantly for our partners and people providing testimony to HRW, we cannot anticipate which data is sensitive at any given time, so we use encryption and other security measures to ensure our data is protected.

Data Backup and Storage
All data must be stored on two macOS encrypted hard drives, a primary drive for daily production and a secondary “backup” drive to ensure data redundancy.
Please back up your primary drive to your secondary drive on a daily basis.

Data Management, Duplication, and Transfer

Data must not be duplicated, shared, or transferred to a platform or service other than those specifically defined by HRW’s Multimedia team.

Data Receipt Process & Deletion Requirement
After data is submitted to our archive after production is complete, a Multimedia team member will receive your completed project files and confirm receipt. At this point, HRW will ask you to delete all data created during production and confirm this deletion using an online confirmation form. HRW will initiate invoice payment as soon as the data receiving and deletion processes are complete..
